Brewers chasing East Coast terroir should start here. Pedersen Farms brought hop cultivation back to New York in 1999, decades after the industry packed up and moved west. They were growing for breweries before the craft boom hit full stride, and that pedigree shows up in every bale.
Pedersen specializes in high-potency and aromatic varieties, with a portfolio that covers new school, old school, and Noble-style hops. For a brewery, that means bittering, flavor, aroma, and lager hops can all come from a single Finger Lakes partner with one of the longest track records in modern American hop growing.

What started as a single backyard arbor for Greg, Nancy, and Dan Koester became a working commercial farm perched on the Erie Escarpment, at the edge of the New York till plains. They planted their first acre in 2015 and have spent every season since dialing in hops that reflect a distinct corner of Western New York.

You might say that Ben and Dave Smith – two brothers born and raised in St. Paul, Oregon, in the heart of the Willamette Valley – have hops in their blood. Their dad grew hops in the Valley with his three brothers, as did their dad’s dad. Their mom’s dad grew hops too.
B&D Farms began in 1984, when the Smith brothers planted hops on 15 acres in St. Paul. Over the years, they’ve slowly expanded their operation to 1,000 acres, making B&D one of Oregon’s largest hop growers.

Originally VGF hops were all cultivated at Sunshine Ranch. Today, VGF’s auxiliary production program produces under license, a significant volume of Amarillo® brand hops outside of the home operation. VGF partner farms grow Amarillo® across the Pacific Northwest; in Washington, Oregon and Idaho as well as multiple regions in Germany.
